Sr Lead, MS SQL DB Admin (Finance)
Position Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Microsoft SQL server Database Administrator who can immediately begin to add value to the Northern Trust Database Engineering division.
The successful candidate will be part of a high touch team of DBAs engaged in supporting new Project development, Engineering efforts and Production Health/Stability at Northern Trust.
The DBA will be responsible for sharing the support of the existing database infrastructure, working on problem resolution, root cause analysis (RCA) , deep dive troubleshooting.
The DBA will be required to fully understand the inner workings of the Northern Trust Database Environment they support.
You will be working with database administrators, application owners, business partners and other Infrastructure divisions to deliver the best possible product and solution for Northern Trust.
Proactive engagement with Engineering and Managed Services teams will be needed to address issues in the infrastructure and avoid potential outages.
Responsibilities and Required Skills
•Strong experience with the management of Microsoft SQL server;
•Senior level technical skills in MS SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2019 including system installation and upgrade, backup and recovery, data server migration, release management, troubleshooting, performance tuning, working with developers and third party vended products. Expertise in SSIS jobs, SQL server Agent Job, Control M jobs and maintenance plans
•Experience with management of Microsoft SQL server failover clustering, Always On, Availability Groups, replication and database mirroring features.
•Familiar with Installing and supporting particular features such as Integration Services, Reporting Services and Analysis Services.
•Experience and managing 3rd party vendor applications. Good working knowledge of, and confidence administering on Windows.
•Scripting skills required for automation of database jobs e.g. Monitoring, Alerting, stats gathering
•Experience working within a project management processes;
•Methodical and accurate while delivering tasks, working within project deadlines.
•Systematic approach to identifying issues and pursuing paths to resolution;
•Experience installing and building new solutions or improving existing applications;
•Ability to foresee relevant issues and assist in proposing possible solutions, Performance and Tuning expertise a must, root cause analysis in a Firecall situation;
•Experience with MS SQL Enterprise Monitoring tools;
•Management of multiple schemas/databases through system development, User Acceptance testing and production environment;
•Fixing or enhancing infrastructure scripts (backups, expanded monitoring and alerting,etc)
•Space and Capacity Validation.
•Fixing systemic problems that arise from an incident.
•Updating build scripts that have new requirements (new user account, new permissions, different configuration, new versions etc.)
•Building out and scheduling maintenance jobs
•Deploying scripts across the environment
•Decommissioning old databases that are no longer in use
•Proactively validating the environment (services missing, inconsistent configurations, periodic checks and fixes) and addressing the problems
•Focus on Production stability and resiliency.

•Demonstrated leadership ability to plan and delegate work.
•Good team player, self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
Qualifications
•Minimum of 6 - 9 years of experience in administrating medium to large databases in complex enterprise environments
•Strong scripting and automation skills.
•Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn on large database clusters
•Database experience from working on engineering or project implementations team
•BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
•Experience migrating On-Prem environments to Azure a plus
•Cohesity backup knowledge a plus
•Experience in the Financial Industry a plus
•Exposure on other Database Management Platforms a plus
