Change Order/Cost Engineer (Finance)

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Change Order / Cost Engineer to join our NYCDEP Construction Management team in Yonkers, New York. In this role, you will use your NYCDEP change order and cost estimating experience to develop independent complete and accurate cost estimates and lead the processing and negotiation of construction design and field change orders. You will also be responsible for reviewing and assembling contractor time and material records and cost documentation for inclusion in change orders. Will also be responsible for the development of independent cost estimates for potential change orders for submission to the client.

Role accountabilities:

As a Cost Estimator, you will lead the processing and tracking of design and field change orders to ensure their timely facilitation and approval. This includes developing independent cost estimates for change orders by performing quantity takeoffs, verifying vendor pricing, evaluating historical cost data, and incorporating markups and indirect costs in alignment with industry standards and NYCDEP contract requirements. You will review and evaluate contractor cost proposals through plan take-offs, subcontractor estimates, and the use of estimating software, leveraging your construction expertise to facilitate cost negotiations. Additionally, you will prepare independent cost estimates for potential change orders, review contractor time and material records, and draft field-related change orders, including scopes of work and cost estimates. Your responsibilities also include developing Authorized Cost Breakdown spreadsheets, Change Order Negotiation Memos, and issuing weekly change order status logs to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a cost estimator or change order engineer
  • Proficiency with estimating software
  • Proficiency with and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand complex MEP projects

Preferred:
  • Hands-on construction field experience as Inspector, Superintendent, Asst. Superintendent, or Resident Project Representative
  • CCP, CEP, CCM, PMP Certification
  • Expertise with estimating discipline which may include general trades, heavy civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls
  • NYCDEP construction project, change order and payment requisition processing experience.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $113,600 - $140,600. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
