JOB TITLE: Interventional Radiology (IR) Medical Scheduler LOCATION OR DEPARTMENT: Clinic EXEMPT STATUS/GRADE: Non-exempt/14 REPORTS TO: IR Supervisor or Operations Support Manager SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None SUMMARY OF POSITION: Assist nurses and radiologists with scheduling and educating patients, processing paperwork and procedure preparation for the IR program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Answer phones and schedule/confirm IR exams and procedures with patients, referring clinics, nurses and radiologists. Educate patients and referring clinics on exam procedures and instructions. Ensure patients, rooms, prior authorizations, medical records and images are prepared for the procedure/exam. Provide clerical/administrative support for the IR nurses and radiologists. Track monthly statistics patient visits, referring physicians, exam volume and number of physician procedures Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with minimum instructions, adhere to prescribed routines and practices, maintain records and to make reports requiring accuracy. Dependable consistently at work and on time. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, training new employees and stocking and/or ordering department supplies. REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent required. HUC or Medical Assistant or related degree/certification preferred. Six months of HUC, scheduling or related medical setting experience required. HUC or related certification preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Excellent customer service/patient care and decision-making skills required. Ability to prioritize tasks; work well independently and in a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective communication with patients, referring clinics, employees, supervisors and the radiologists required. Must be detail oriented. Demonstrate knowledge of safety-related work behaviors to ensure a safe work environment DAILY PHYSICAL DEMANDS REQUIRED FOR PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Requires sitting for long periods of time. Some bending and stretching required. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally. Repetitive motions, keyboarding, twisting, turning, gripping and grasping. Environmental/working conditions: Low-Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood products, bodily fluids and/or hazardous materials common to a radiology setting. Low-Potential exposure to ionizing radiation exams rooms and/or involved in the use of ionizing radiation common to a radiology setting.
