Water Quality Modeler (Finance)



At Tetra Tech, the Water division provides industry-recognized expertise to hundreds of clients nationally and around the world. Our comprehensive civil engineering, planning and environmental services cover green stormwater infrastructure, river and estuary restoration, coastal infrastructure design, fish passage and habitat restoration, hydrology and hydraulics, flood protection design, and more. Through these services, the Tetra Tech Water division is committed to providing water resource solutions that improve the quality of life, protect public health and safety, and restore environmental quality for our clients and the communities we live in.

The Southeast region of the Water division provides services in Georgia, Florida and other areas in the southeastern U.S. Supporting several state and municipal clients within this region, as well as multiple federal agencies, the Southeast team has completed some of the most technically challenging projects in the region and beyond, including:

  • Supporting state agencies throughout the southeast in developing watershed and waterbody models to establish total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), water quality criteria, and restoration plans through long-term contracts.

  • Developing three-dimensional models for complex hydraulic problems and modernizing data collection through a "research, develop, and execute" approach that results in real-world solutions that are efficient and sustainable.

  • Providing project life-cycle solutions through modeling, watershed assessments and planning, best management practice (BMP) recommendations, and design for multiple local governments.

To support our continued success as a leader in water resources management for our clients, we have an immediate opportunity for a Water Quality Modeler to join the Southeast team. For this role, we are open to hybrid work schedules in our Atlanta, GA, Cocoa, FL, or Jacksonville, FL offices, or remote work schedules within the southeast United States region. In this role, you would have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and support watershed, hydrodynamic, water quality, and coastal model setup, calibration, validation, and application.

  • Support water resources and coastal engineering projects.

  • Conduct research related to watershed, hydrodynamic, water quality, and coastal management studies.

  • Analyze watershed, hydrodynamic, water quality, and metoceanographic data using GIS and statistical techniques.

  • Manage and/or contribute to project documentation and deliverables such as memos, reports, and plans.

  • Develop or prepare descriptive charts, figures/maps, and tables/matrices.

  • Lead or assist with quality control and assurance.

To be a successful Water Quality Modeler, you'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree ( Master's degree preferred) in water resources/environmental/ocean sciences or engineering.

  • 3 to 10 years of demonstrated educational and relevant work experience showing strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience conducting watershed, water quality, hydrodynamic, sediment modeling, and coastal studies using public and proprietary domain tools (e.g., HSPF/LSPC, EFDC/Delft3D, WASP, XBeach / SBeach , OpenFOAM /FLOW3D).

  • Knowledge of computer programming language (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB ) .

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interest in emerging topics in water resources and coastal sciences.

  • Ability to provide technical support for business development and be mentored for future business development initiatives.

The base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000; individual compensation will vary within this range based on your skills, qualifications and experience as they relate to the requirements for this position.
