Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (Healthcare)



The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant professional for its OT/PT Program to work with clients throughout the Allegheny County. The AIU OT/PT supports public and private school entities throughout Allegheny County. Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)  

Position Summary:  
This position is responsible for the implementation of school based occupational therapy programs under the direction of a supervising Occupational Therapist.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

  1. Attend, participate in, and/or review information to discuss results of required evaluations and IEP reports. 

  1. Implement individual, group, classroom, consultative services as appropriate to meet the needs of students in their educational programs. 

  1. Schedule students effectively, efficiently to receive occupational therapy services. 

  1. Utilize best practices; evidence based research, and appropriate materials to implement therapeutic services. 

  1. Consult with educational and other therapy staff, parents regarding occupational therapy needs and services in school. 

  1. Maintain working student files in accordance with department procedures. 

  1. Complete all documentation within required timelines. 

  1. Prepare and complete ACCESS billing for eligible students. 

  1. Monitor and document student progress based on data collection information. 

  1. Submit current treatment schedules and updates as needed to administration. 

  1. Ensure and maintain student confidentiality and protect student data in accordance with HIPAA/FERPA regulations and AIU policy. 

  1. Demonstrate familiarity with use of email, word documents, excel, and online IEP writing systems as required. 

  1. Advise AIU administrative staff of caseload trends, district needs, and specific student concerns in a timely manner. 

  1. Work collaboratively and in accordance with practice act and licensure regulations with supervising occupational therapist/s. 

  1. Attend staff meetings, in-services, and serve on staff committees as required. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  1. Valid PA Occupational Therapist Assistant License 

  1. Valid Occupational Therapist Assistant Degree 

  1. Pediatric school based experience preferred. 

  1. Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited supervision 

  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills 

  1. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies 

  1. Ability and experience working as a member of a team 

  1. Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible 

  1. Ability to travel. 

  1. Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy 

Additional Requirements:  

  1. Current Act 114, Act 34 and Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date). 

  1. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
