Associate Director- Donor Engagement (Finance)



Department: Constituent Engagement Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education
Description:

Responsible for the operations of a large program or center at the university. Oversees staff, budgets, and projects.

1. Oversees a large department, program or center.
2. Manages budget and engages in strategic planning to ensure all goals are met.
3. Hires and directs the activities of staff.
4. Resolves personnel issues as they arise.
5. Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policy development.
6. Implements new programs and projects and monitors ongoing activities of department or center.
7. Reviews department policies and processes and implements improvements as needed.
8. Represents department or center to internal and external constituents.
9. Performs other job-related duties as required.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

The Position:

  • Serve as Division-wide lead for two primary donor societies (cumulative giving and corporate giving) and associated strategy, programming and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the Manager of Donor Engagement.
  • Design and oversee donor engagement programs to enhance donor relationships. Assist in leading the planning and execution of high-impact donor events, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures that the donors are properly engaged based on their philanthropic interests through communications efforts and programming.
  • Serves as the knowledge expert in drafting communications for targeted donor audiences including correspondence from UH Leadership.
  • Represents the internal clients, their funding priorities and the ability to effectively articulate the goals.
  • Track engagement metrics, analyze donor feedback, and report effectiveness to leadership.
  • Ensures adherence to best practices in donor relations and engagement strategies within a campaign environment.
  • Focus on the donor experience throughout the process.

Required Experience:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and priorities simultaneously.
  • Understanding of non-profit fundraising, donor relations and types of philanthropic support (individual, corporate, foundation, current-use, endowed and planned gifts).
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud CRM) for data management and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and proofing ability.
  • Analytical mindset with experience tracking and reporting on performance metrics.
  • Positive and professional demeanor with a customer-service focus and ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, vendors and donors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfort with project management software, SharePoint and DocuSign.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
