Consulting Director, Director of Market Research (Finance)



As Director of Market Research, you will help some of the most powerful organizations on the planet gain a market advantage by doing the right thing for the planet. This will be done by gathering rich market insights that help our clients make the right environmental and social purpose commitments, develop more environmentally friendly products, evolve what their brands stand for and fuel the right stories and market engagement campaigns. In this role, you have the responsibility of securing and maintaining positive relationships with key outside vendors.  While also being responsible for the direct supervision of Research personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Methodologically agnostic; with a passion for rigorous research ranging from ethnography to conjoint with deep experience on the quantitative side of market research.
  • Design and manage research projects from listening to clients through methodology design, analysis, and reporting.
  • Sees beyond simple percentages and significant differences to the story of what the data means to make insights actionable for our clients.
  • Collaborate well with internal team members in research, creative and account service to help lead our clients to inspire insights.
  • Master's the entire research process and enjoys sharing research knowledge and skills to develop talent on the research team and inspire members of other departments.
  • Make insights actionable, whether it is for product development, marketing strategy-building or creative campaign development.
  • Truly shares our passion for storytelling, creating synthesized, visually compelling presentations incorporating clear tables, graphs, and infographics.
  • Ensures overall client satisfaction throughout the research process and manages client relationships to generate repeat business.
  • Serves as a thought leader and subject matter expert within the agency, with clients and within the industry at large.
  • Envision, create, and own client presentations.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor or otherwise directed by the Company.
  • Overnight travel may be required to client meetings or sites.

Knowledge and Skill:

  • Requires 4-year degree.
  • Requires 10+ years' experience of deep research and project management experience nationally and internationally (supplier-side desired).

  • See patterns indicating issues to solve and future scenarios/opportunities and be able to articulate them and plan to solve or leverage them.

Excellent attention to detail:

  • Be able to immediately see the path for implementing bigger picture ideas.
  • See problems coming, think ahead, ask questions, put action plans in place quickly.
  • Display a high degree of personal accountability for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain excellent computer skills; quickly master any new software.

Self-assurance without arrogance or defensiveness:

  • Speak your mind/say what you think, especially if your opinion differs from the rest of the group.
  • Be comfortable playing the devil's advocate.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and earn respect.

Creative Problem Solving:

  • Identify problems, seek out help and advice from others and create solutions.
  • Be willing to try new approaches as the agency grows.

Strong interpersonal skills/good read of people:

  • Successfully manage people so that they feel supported and perform at their best.
  • Successfully manage outside resources and build relationships with key partners/vendors so that they enjoy doing business with Shelton and the agency is provided with the best possible terms/work from them.
  • Be self-aware; put differing opinions forward in a way that they can be heard.
