Responsibilities: Knows instrumentation, has ability to anticipate surgeons needs by observing and concentrating quietly during operative procedure.Helps maintain doctors/surgeons preference cards and updates when necessary.Responsible for instrument, sponge, and needle count before, during and after procedure.Maintains good patient care and safety in the operating room.Maintains the instrumentation in good working condition, removes instrumentation from sets that need replacing/repair and gives it to the Director of Perioperative Services. Learns to assemble and operate OR equipment.Checks supplies for outdated daily and notifies sterile processing to sterilize items as needed.Checks supplies, suture, masks, caps, scrub brushes and shoe cover daily and restocks, as necessary.Checks safe functioning of equipment prior to patients arrival in the operating room.Identifies, assembles, and handles instruments during operative procedures.Follows end of case procedure for care of instruments and equipment.Check sterility of items before presenting to a sterile field.Applies concepts of asepsis.Appropriately handles draping procedure.Opens sterile supplies properly.Keeps the operative field neat, clean, and organized.Controls own movements in and around sterile field.Applies sterile dressings.Performs humidity checks in each OR suite daily before the room is set up.Works where assigned within the department of surgical services.Assists in other departments when requested to.Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Position Requirements: 1+ years of previous operating room experience preferred.Certification in Surgery Technology (CST) preferred.Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or preapproved provider.
