Credit Analysis - Credit Risk Executive (Finance)



SUMMARY :

The Credit Risk Executive (CRE), an integral member of the credit leadership team, is a dynamic leader responsible for directing the bank's commercial, mortgage, and consumer underwriting activities. The CRE develops and maintains best practices with respect to timely and appropriate credit and risk analysis to ensure an appropriate balance between organizational growth objectives and credit risk appetite.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Develops and enforces appropriate policies, procedures, and underwriting guidelines commensurate with commercial banking, business banking, mortgage banking, and consumer banking underwriting, including designing efficient and effective underwriting programs and loan approval platforms to timely meet the bank's lending objectives
  • Continuously monitors the health of loan portfolios to inform underwriting guidelines and reinforce credit culture
  • Confidently exercises individual loan authority, serves as a member of Executive Loan Committee, and serves as an alternative chairperson of said Committee for the purpose of adjudicating loans; partners with lenders, line management, and other credit professionals to structure winning transactions within risk tolerance
  • Oversees director level management staff but works closely with associates at all levels, providing support and direction to accomplish organizational goals and directives and ensure ownership and accountability; performs continual evaluation of appropriate competencies and quantity of staff
  • Provides mentorship to associates at all levels of the organization
  • Develops and analyzes statistical loss models to establish parameters for auto-scoring programs
  • Provides subject matter expertise regarding financial analysis and industry trends
  • Serves as a member of the due diligence and integration team with respect to acquisitions
  • Represents the bank in a variety of interactions with professionals and regulatory authorities

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related business field; MBA preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in commercial real estate, commercial & industrial, residential and consumer underwriting; credit card administration and loan origination experience preferred
  • Demonstrated track record developing a best-in-class credit risk program that is responsive and efficient that resulted in superior asset quality and produced minimal losses
  • Extensive experience with client facing responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Advanced investment and commercial real estate (owner occupied) underwriting skills for all asset classes, including but not limited to construction, purchase and sale agreements, lease contracts, 1031 exchanges, external environment risk drivers, market accepted loan terms and conditions, and loan documentation
  • Advanced business lending underwriting skills, including but not limited to understanding the sources and uses of cash flows, fixed charges, capital expenses, trading assets, cash conversion cycles, acquisition considerations, external environment risk drivers, market accepted loan terms, and conditions and loan documentation
  • Advanced retail banking underwriting skills, including residential mortgage (purchase money, second homes, construction) and consumer loans (automobile, HELOC); includes secondary marketing, consumer credit scores, DTI tolerances, and consumer regulatory environment
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis techniques, including but not limited to spreading software, ratio and common size financial analysis, break-even analysis, return on investment, and repayment capacity
  • Advanced knowledge of loan structuring terms and conditions, including off-balance sheet derivatives, appropriate financial reporting requirements, and covenant establishment
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis including but not limited to expected loss modeling and auto-scoring for consumer and commercial loans
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation B, Regulation O, Fair Lending, HMDA, and Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices
  • Familiarity with core loan accounting, loan origination systems, Microsoft Office and leading research tools
  • Familiarity with loan collection, loan closing, and loan operations
  • Ability to mentor entry level and director level associates

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to occasionally move or lift to 10 pounds
  • May be asked to work supplemental hours periodically
  • Occasional travel required during and after business hours, including the possibility of overnight travel
