MM Shelter Chaplain (Personal Services)

Objective

To provide for the spiritual and physical needs of male shelter guests and program participants and ensure a safe, stable, and welcoming environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Function as a positive contributing staff member of City Union Mission by timely communication, participation in meetings, strategic planning, data management, supplying reports and statistics, and problem solving to ensure unity with the purpose and goals of the Mission.
• Embodying a posture of Biblical hospitality, respond to shelter guests spiritual inquiries and needs.
• Coordinate and organize the evening chapel services in the Shelter and be available to teach classes as needed.
• Conduct an initial intake interview for the short-term food assistance program, Christian Life Program, and address any guests who have clothing or hygiene needs. Provide information and resources as available and needed.
• Help maintain a safe and secure environment by upholding Shelter policy and procedure and reporting any maintenance and disciplinary issues.
• Be willing to perform other duties as assigned.
• Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ and be prepared to share the gospel as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

• Be a born again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel as opportunities during the work day arise. (1 Peter 2:21 and 1 Peter 3:15).
• Able to lead others in spiritual maturity and demonstrate the attributes of a Christian role model with clients, staff, and the community at large (1Timothy 4:12; Joshua 24:15).
• Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy in Google and Microsoft applications.
• Required: Bachelors degree in counseling, social services, or ministry with some pastoral experience.
• Preferred: 2+ years of chaplaincy experience in addiction recovery and with homeless populations; Certified Missouri Peer Support Specialist or Recovery Support Specialist.
