Data Engineer

Job Description Summary:

  • D&G is seeking a Data Engineer to support USTRANSCOM's role as the Single Manager for Global Bulk Fuel Management and Delivery (GBFMD) to establish and maintain a Foundational Data Ser for the Joint Petroleum Enterprise (JPE) and the Department of Defense (DoD). The Data Engineer will design and implement solutions for how bulk fuel data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by the JPE and digital systems. This includes supporting the development of a Global Common Operating Picture and other bulk fuel IT tools. This position offers a significant opportunity to contribute to critical DoD missions globally and work with cutting-edge technologies.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Common Operating Picture Support: Develop and maintain data pipelines for ingesting data into Databricks and transferring data from Databricks into Palantir's Ontology. Collaborate with other teams on related data integration tasks.
  • JPE Data Set Support: Review and analyze JPE data sources (applications, websites, programs, COPs, etc.) and identify opportunities to source additional JPE data. Design and implement data ingestion processes into a structured format suitable for API development. Develop and publish APIs to make data available to the JPE in a standard, easy-to-access manner.
  • Data Dictionary Management: Collaborate with stakeholders to manage and maintain a centralized repository of meaning, relationships to other data, origin, usage, format, and metadata for the JPE data set.
  • Administer data topics, data structure, and implement data engineering best practices.
  • Actively participate in working groups and meetings, contributing to metadata requirements, data structure modeling, tool selection, and other relevant discussions.
  • Contribute to GBFMD equities presentations to USTRANSCOM, JS, and OSD governance boards as needed.
  • Complete ad hoc projects assigned by the Division Chief, Branch Chief, and Program Manager.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with data pipeline development using tools like Apache Spark, Kafka, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with Databricks is highly desired.
  • Experience with Palantir Ontology is a plus.
  • Ability to travel within CONUS, approximately 10% of the time.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • DoD SECRET Clearance with eligibility for TS/SCI
  • This role is restricted to U.S. person(s) (ie., U.S. citizens, permanent residents and other protected individuals under the immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3))

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques.
  • Experience with API development and RESTful web services.
  • Experience with Maven Smart Systems or similar platforms.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and quickly learn new technologies.
  • Experience working with DoD, DLA, or USTRANSCOM.

Location:

  • This position is required to be on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois.

Pay Range: $125,000 - $135,000 per year Apply Salary Minimum: 125000Salary Maximum: 135000
