The Global Medical Affairs business unit serves as a hub for clinical and scientific information, product training, and field support for all Bioventus products. This role serves as a critical leader in addressing the non-commercial needs of health care providers, contributions of scientific information and key clinical messages for the portfolio, in addition to fostering strong relationships with thought leaders and critical stakeholders. The role serves as the Medical Affairs key point of contact for project leadership, including managing and tracking projects for International Markets.

This leader works closely with the VP, to identify opportunities to improve capabilities and functional bandwidth of the department, playing a crucial role in strategic scientific and clinical support, bridging the gap between the company and healthcare professionals (HCPs), developing planning and performance metrics, executing on agreed strategies, and delivering needed support to internal groups and external healthcare providers.What you'll be doing

• Relationship Building: Identifying, developing, and fostering relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic researchers, and other HCPs in a specific therapeutic area and geographic territory. Provides support to marketing/sales teams with medical/scientific expertise. Interacts with multidisciplinary global teams and functions.
• Medical Affairs Strategy: Co-contributes to the development and execution of the medical affairs strategy and supporting medical objectives related to all products. Leads and Oversees medical communications and publication dissemination planning (e.g. abstracts, case studies/series, review articles, etc.)
• Scientific Knowledge/New Markets Exchange: Engages in scientific forums, delivering balanced, objective medical and scientific information about products and relevant disease states; including responding to unsolicited requests for medical information. Develops a sound, thoughtful scientific messaging platform for all products with global level content for the benefit of the company's clients and patients. Participates in major conventions, symposiums, advisory board programs, and congresses to provide medical and scientific support to both internal and external customers.
• Insight Gathering: A trusted source for physicians and academia, and medical societies, to gather information and insights from KOLs/ HCPs regarding safety, clinical practice, unmet medical needs, education, research and science, and competitive landscape developments. Interprets and effectively communicates relevant medical and scientific topics and literature. Presents complex medical and scientific ideas fluently to both internal and external audiences
• Education and Training: Provides education and support to physicians, study investigators, in close collaboration with key internal leaders, while serving as an established, proven, educational resource, connecting clinically to internal staff, translating clinical needs, outcomes, etc. Develops and executes plans to disseminate medical and scientific information, including clinical research results, related to products and the diseases they address through publications, medical educational programs, and medical conferences
• Research/Support: Identifying potential investigators and research projects, facilitating investigator-initiated studies, and collaborating with clinical operations on-site. Oversees company initiated clinical research initiatives. Uses KOL's to develop clinical research and product development for the company to own and develop in OrthoBiologics, both autologous and non-autologous products.
• Coaching & Mentorship: Effectively leads, manages, and develops the medical affairs international team including, but not limited to individual contributors and medical science liaisons. Coaching and mentoring less experienced professionals; supports in manuscript writing with physicians/others. Attracts, develops, and retains top talent. Provides employees with consistent coaching using talent-and-performance management tools.
• Holds oneself and others accountable to conduct business in a manner compliant with the Code of Compliance and Ethics, policies and procedures and internal controls.
• All other duties and projects assigned.

What you'll bring to the table

• Scientific or clinical degree (e.g. BS, PhD, PharmD) required
• 10+ years in relevant research area or medical affairs pharmaceutical or biotech industry including both project and staff management experience
• Significant experience in project management and process improvement
• Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and developing people
• Demonstrated skills in scientific literature evaluation and preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Field-based non-surgical ortho biological, and/or surgical experience preferred
