Technical Expert (OT) (Finance)



As a Technical Expert, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and high-performing enterprise solutions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, data, and business teams to deliver innovative technology that drives business value. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, mentorship, and a strong focus on customer-centric outcomes.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES - This is a salary exempt position.

Designs, develops, and implements complex, integrated solutions across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid environments. Ensure system interoperability, scalability, and performance across platforms and applications. Lead end-to-end software development lifecycle using modern frameworks, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.

Focuses on innovation and continuous improvement to Identify and implement emerging technologies to solve business challenges and improve operational efficiency. Conduct impact assessments and feasibility studies for new initiatives and enhancements. Drives automation, reusability, and simplification across the technology stack.

Champions stakeholder engagement and provides technical leadership. Translates business goals into technical strategies and actionable roadmaps. Serve as a trusted advisor to business units, aligning technology solutions with organizational objectives. Advocate for user experience, security, and long-term maintainability in all technical decisions.

Provides mentorship for engineers and developers through knowledge sharing like code reviews, design sessions, and technical workshops. Promote a culture of learning, collaboration, and technical excellence. Stay current with industry trends and share insights to elevate team capabilities.

Possesses subject matter expertise and certain domain knowledge in enterprise systems like ERP, Operational Technology systems, integrations, security, and enterprise architecture. Troubleshoot complex issues and provide guidance on best practices and standards. Ensure solutions minimize technical debt and maximize size return on technology investments.

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Works with both IT and Operations teams, attending appropriate team meetings across both groups. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of team leaders and working with teams in a supportive manner to resolve issues.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with customers, vendors, or employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in an office or manufacturing environment and surrounding property. May travel via car or plane to various work locations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): As required by visiting facility.

Travel: Approximately 10-15% travel, including travel to Simmons facilities, one to two offsite classes or conferences per year, and to Simmons offices. Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain a passport.

Technical Experience: 10+ years of combined experience in IT systems architecture and operational technology (OT), with a strong focus on industrial control systems. Skilled in industrial networks, SCADA, MES, historians, PLCs, and a wide range of manufacturing technologies. Demonstrated success in integrating enterprise applications (ERP, CRM, etc.) with shop floor systems. Proven track record in developing and executing IT/OT convergence strategies. Proficient in industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, and Modbus, and their integration with enterprise systems. Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles tailored to industrial environments.

Industry Experience: Preference for food processing organization.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, control systems engineering, or in a related field of study or 4 years related experience.

Preferred Education: MS degree in Information Services, Computer Science, Control Systems Engineering, or MBA .
