Research Technician OPS (Finance)



Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $16.50/hr 1.0 FTE 40hrs/wk

Job Summary: Applicant will be assigned to work on research areas of heart disease and diabetes in Dr. Tipparaju lab at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Tipparaju research lab is studying molecular mechanisms for aging, heart disease and diabetes for developing new therapeutics and drug delivery systems using pre-clinical models. Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience. College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or Masters in a biological, pharmaceutical, medical, or applied science.
  • Familiarity and experience with immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, Western blotting, real-time qPCR, among other techniques.
  • Experience in ex vivo heart, Langendorff, cell culture research is plus.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.

  • Conducts and modifies laboratory research protocols on biological materials using methods such as mammalian tissue cultures and histology requiring the use of sterile technique, preparing slides using staining techniques, and performing assays for protein (western blotting), RNA, DNA, or other cellular components, extracellular vesicle isolation.
  • Cares for laboratory animals. Performs standardized experimental protocols and in vivo procedures. May prepare animals for surgery, and care for animals after surgery. Assist in the animal handling, breeding, tissue collection and genotyping.
  • Culture and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) cell.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, arranges for repair as necessary, orders and inventories laboratory supplies. Calibrates instruments and prepares laboratory equipment for use.
  • Keeps records of the conduct and outcome of laboratory analyses. Maintains project databases. Prepares graphs, graphs, charts, and tables from experimental results for inclusion in presentations, publications, and grant applications. Using technology for preparing laboratory presentation, graphs and data analysis.
  • Instructs undergraduate students in laboratory methods. Performs literature searches for appropriate laboratory techniques and subject of research. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be available in the weekends (if needed) to change culture medium for handling of mice and taking care of animals.
