Clinical Research Fellow Rhinology & Endoscopic Skull (Finance)



The USF Department of Otolaryngology Clinical Research Fellowship in Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base surgery is a non-ACGME accredited mini-fellowship requiring an M.D. or D.O. and successful completion of an Otolaryngology residency or a General Surgery residency with additional fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgery. The duration is 3-12 months. The fellowship director is Mark Tabor, MD.Must be a graduate of an approved professional degree program in the appropriate health discipline and have completed residency training within a selected area of specialization, including research and/or clinical training in specialized areas.

Must be licensed or eligible for a full Florida medical license in their primary specialty and qualified to function as an attending physician.

This Advanced Fellowship training will usually follow the completion of clinical training in preparation for an academic position or subspecialty certification.

Due to the requirements of this class code, holders of J-1 visa are not eligible for an appointment using this code.

RESEARCH DUTIES: 70% Any potential candidate would be expected to contribute to the medical literature, write abstracts and present at pertinent society meetings, and foster the research interests of the residents. The fellow will assist with recruiting patients to several ongoing clinical trials. The fellow will help process patient tissue samples collected during surgery for out sinus sample biobank.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: 0%

CLINICAL DUTIES: 10% The Fellow will attend clinic and surgery with Rhinology attendings. The fellow will help with the informed consent process for research subjects and be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the research logs. The fellow will staff a weekly acute care clinic and post-op clinic.

OTHER DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
\n
The fellow will be an essential part of the sinonasal research team. The fellow will assist with subject recruitment and data analysis. The fellow will be expected to present research data and findings at national meetings. The fellow will mentor residents and medical students with their research endeavors. From a clinical standpoint the fellow will learn the essentials of endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery. The fellow will become proficient in the preop workup of these patients. The fellow will learn the skills of post-operative sinus debridement. Surgically, the fellow will learn the techniques of expanded endonasal approaches to the skull base including transsphenoidal, transplanum and transpterygoid. The fellow will be expected to present all new sinonasal malignancies at the USF/TGH tumor board. Apply
