Position Summary:

The Rad Tech/Mammographer is expected to produce high quality Radiographic and Mammographic images under the guidance of the Radiology Supervisor. These films shall be accomplished within the positioning guidelines of the department and following all accepted radiation safety procedures. The Rad Tech/Mammographer will also take part in Quality Improvement and Quality Control activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs Diagnostic Mammography Tech/X-Ray examination following department protocol and utilizing technical factors to ensure the highest quality result within ACR guidelines.
  • Produces copies of Radiographic & Mammographic images as needed, on film or CD.
  • Follows Radiation safety procedures on all exams, keeping them ALARA.
  • Appropriately utilizes shields to reduce exposure to the patient.

  • Sets technical factors to reduce patient exposure and produce high-quality images.
  • Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurance testing on the Mammography unit as mandated by the state of Massachusetts and ACR.

  • GE Essential daily, weekly, & monthly QC, as applicable:

  • Viewbox cleaning

  • Phantom Testing

  • Compression test

  • Rotate and cover shifts as department and patient care needs change.

  • Interacts with patients and other staff in a manner that reflects respect for the needs and concerns of the individual.

  • Assists in Clerical duties, including but not limited to patient data input, scheduling patients, updating as needed, and preparing exams for reading and filling. Also, participate in maintaining a current Mammography Tracking system.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reads, understands, and complies with all Standards of Conduct, JCAHO policies, and all laws related to position responsibilities and employment at NeighborHealth.
  • Upholds procedures and systems to safeguard the confidentiality of all patient and employee information. 
  • Upholds safety policies, practices, and procedures, including safety, fire safety, electrical safety, proper body mechanics and material handling, office/ergonomic safety, and other employee safety measures.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Education:

  • Graduate of the AMA AMA-approved Radiologic Technology training Program. 

  • Associate's Degree is strongly desired.

  • ARRT and the State of Massachusetts are registered in good standing, both in Radiography and Mammography.

  • Certification and clinical experience in Mammography.
  • CPR Certified and able to maintain on an annual basis.

Experience:

  • 1 – 3 years of experience in a high-volume environment performing diagnostic radiographic examination, including 1 year performing Mammography.
  • Good working knowledge in the field of Radiology/Mammography.

  • Ability to assimilate changes in technical Radiographic settings.

Hourly Rate: Starting at $55.00 per hour, and up to $70.00 per hour based on experience
