Mobile/Field Service Technician (Maintenance)



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with customers in advance of field call to confirm scope of work and specific service requirements
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment failures and perform hydraulic, electrical and mechanical repairs on various types of equipment
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on various types of equipment
  • Communicate effectively with the branch Service Writer and Parts team to ensure optimal responsiveness to the customer
  • Communicate with Location/Service Manager regarding job progress and job status changes
  • Provide updates to customers on the status of repairs
  • Update work order system for all service calls completed in alignment with required service processes
  • Manage mobile service repair truck inventory and ensure all required items are in place for health and safety compliance
  • Complete training assignments to enhance mechanical or product knowledge as requested by Manager
  • Recommend any additional service or parts needed to customer
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned such as working in the branch shop from time to time

Work Environment

  • Roadside service work and customer site
  • Occasional Warehouse/Shop environment
  • Frequent exposure to the elements, noise, dust and dirt

Essential Skills and Requirements

  • Education from an accredited technical school in diesel engine/hydraulics/heavy equipment repair preferred but not required
  • Valid CDL driver's license (or ability to obtain a CDL) and a clean driver's abstract
  • Forklift or overhead crane certificates would be an asset
  • 3+ years' experience in a Field Service Technician or a related role
  • Chassis experience considered an asset
  • Experienced with hydraulic and/or electrical work
  • Experience setting up and operating complex machinery
  • Exposure to Vacuum Truck equipment considered an asset
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction and building strong customer relationships
  • Self-motivated - ability to plan and execute work without on-site supervision
  • Independent problem-solver
  • Resourceful and knowledgeable in a variety of technical areas (hydraulics, schematics, electrical)
  • Well organized and manages time efficiently to meet customer expectations
  • Willing to assist others when required
  • Ability to work in a safe manner in alignment with company policies and safe work procedures

Essential Attributes of Positions

  • Travel expectations: 80% - 90%
  • Eligible for commission on acquired parts and service sales
  • Frequently required to lift and move moderately heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently required to sit for long periods
  • Frequently standing and walking
  • Physically fit and able to work with heavy equipment
  • Frequently required to multitask two to three tasks
  • Frequently required to work using close visual attention
  • Ongoing requirement to ensure a hazard free environment
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (when necessary) and follow safety guidelines
