Primary Purpose:
Air Care & Mobile Care (ACMC) is a comprehensive transport medicine system that provides the full spectrum: BLS, ALS, Mobile ICU, Mobile Stroke Unit, Event Medicine, and rotor wing transport medicine. ACMC also operates an independent communication center that facilitates patient transports, community support in the event of a mass casualty/disaster situation and helicopter communications/coordination in metropolitan Cincinnati area. ACMC is a traditional, hospital-based, not-for-profit program, part of the UC Health system. ACMC has provided the Greater Cincinnati tri-state region's critically ill and injured patients with specialized transport medicine since the program was founded in 1984. The program is comprised of a team of more than 200 EMTs, paramedics, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, communication specialists, mechanics, pilots, and administrators.
The patients cared for by Air Care are experiencing life-threatening illnesses or injuries that require time-dependent interventions. Air Care is one of only three helicopter EMS (HEMS) programs in the US with a provider (an emergency physician or an acute care NP) on every flight mission, in addition to a highly experienced dual-certified flight nurse/medic. By land, ACMC also provides Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Mobile Stroke Unit, Advanced Life Support (interfacility and first responder) and Basic Life Support transport teams. ACMC is the only service in the region to be accredited in all four levels of transport medicine by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).
