Position Summary: The primary purpose of your job position is to work alongside the nursing department to provide non-nursing/non-direct care for our residents. Some of the duties would include, making beds, passing ice and water, answering call lights, and other non-nursing duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. • Ensure the rooms are prepared for new admissions.
• Perform room rounds and ensure room meets homelike environment criteria
• Completes inventory checklist on all new admissions
• Create and place room name prior to resident arrival.
• Assists in passing out briefs and other supplies as assigned by nursing management
• Pick up food trays (Do not pass out trays or snacks)
• Put together a welcome basket and greet the resident upon arrival.
• Answer resident calls promptly.
• Visit, read, and provide activities to residents.
• Watch for and report any change in room temperature, ventilation, lighting, etc.
• Verify with nurse appropriate liquid/hydration method. Keep residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water (on each shift), and within easy reach of the resident.

• Follow established policies concerning EBP.
• Assure that the residents' rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established and always maintained.
• Knock before entering a resident's room.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.).
• Moves intermittently during working hours.
• Is subject to frequent interruptions.
• Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
• Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
• Communicates with nursing personnel and other department personnel.
• Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
• Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
• Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
• Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
• Is subject to exposure to infectious wastes, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses.
• May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (with or without the aid of mechanical devices):

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
• Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.
• Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
• Must be able to lift to 25 pounds. Occasional pushing and pulling of carts and wheelchairs.
• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
