Central to Urban's mission is fostering a truly inclusive community that ensures ongoing relevance to a changing world. The successful candidate will contribute to HFPC work streams in multiple ways: conducting and contributing to research and policy analysis around housing finance, homeownership and housing racial wealth gaps, supporting the translation of research insights to policy and practice, meeting planning, innovative engagement strategies, and advancing program goals through development and tracking of work plans, budgets, and management of key relationships. The candidate will support portfolios of existing work as well as new and emerging opportunities, working closely with staff at all levels.
We are seeking a candidate who values diversity and inclusion; thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic office environment; and possesses strong writing, oral communication, problem-solving, time management, and relationship management skills.
With the support of of the senior policy program manager and policy analyst, manage external relationships to provide research and evidence that answers critical questions, and empowers external stakeholders to make better policy and practice decisions.
Participate in all stages of the research process including project management, occasional data analysis, policy analysis, writing, and review.
Conduct background policy research to support existing projects as well as proposals for new bodies of work.
Synthesize policy and research findings to identify and recommend best practices in program or policy implementation.
Proactively track and report on housing and housing finance policy developments on Capitol Hill and within government agencies.
Draft reports, summaries, op-eds, blogs, talking points and presentations for internal and external audiences.
Manage and track program deliverables and finances across multiple projects and teams, proactively communicating progress and potential challenges to supervisors and project teams.
Support the execution of roundtables and other meetings by coordinating logistics, engaging partners, developing content and taking notes.
Support and prepare the senior policy program manager for regular internal and external meetings, and in the completion of project and program deliverables.
The successful candidate will:
Possess a bachelor's degree, preferably in public policy, political science, public administration, economics, sociology, business administration, or a related field.
Demonstrate interest in public policy and/or social sciences through prior work experience, involvement in volunteering programs, internships, or leadership positions in academic and/or extra-curricular settings.
Have excellent oral and written communication skills, especially for policy-focused audiences.
Express a willingness to adapt to changes in work assignments, deadlines, and project management styles.
Display strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize.
Have strong interpersonal skills and comfort working both independently and in team environments supporting collaborative projects.
Prove an emerging capacity with urban policy analysis in affordable housing, homeownership, and housing finance arenas with an interest in racial, ethnic and socioeconomic equity as a cross-cutting issue.
Exhibit an interest in consuming and distilling research for use in policy and practice.
Demonstrate capacity to engage and communicate with individuals of differing backgrounds and experience supporting collaborative projects.
Have a willingness to learn, adapt and suggest improvements.
