Senior Associate Analyst, Investments (Finance)

Overview:

We are seeking an analyst to support the Operational Due Diligence Team (based in Stamford, CT, U.S.) with all responsibilities pertaining to operational due diligence ("ODD") and ongoing monitoring of investment managers for the Northern Trust Asset Management Multi-Managers Solutions ("MMS") platform. MMS involves an investment approach that utilizes third party investment managers to assist in the management of proprietary investment products and other client portfolios. The role will support the identification and evaluation of operational risks presented by these investment managers and will encompass a broad range of investment strategies, principally in the public markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead ODD reviews of third-party investment managers; includes conducting meetings with senior leadership of these managers (virtual and in person) and meeting preparation that involves the careful review of core documents (e.g., due diligence questionnaires, policies, procedures, audit reports, regulatory filings).
  • Prepare written findings of these ODD reviews that include an assessment of the key operational risks in areas such as governance, conflicts of interest, compliance, trading, business continuity, and cybersecurity.
  • Present ODD review findings to oversight committees comprised of senior investment and business leaders.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of investment managers on MMS platform through different touchpoints and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to inform ODD competence.
  • Maintain and update internal databases used to facilitate the tracking and scheduling of ODD reviews.
  • Contribute to the regular enhancement of ODD processes and productivity.
  • Collaborate with investment, legal, risk, and compliance professionals within Northern Trust on various processes and initiatives.

Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, advanced degree or industry certifications a plus.
  • 3 or more years' experience in the operations, compliance, risk, and/or audit departments of a registered investment adviser; ODD experience a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and "best practices" for the asset management industry.
  • Knowledge of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940; familiarity with the securities regulatory regime in Canada a plus.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong teamwork and people skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications and an adaptable mindset for technological advancements.
  • Experience with DiligenceVault and FactSet a plus.
