Claims Specialist (Commercial Liability) (Finance)

Position Summary
Exercises independent discretion or judgment in handling complex and/or high exposure commercial liability claims. Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage of claims. Also assists or acts on behalf of claims supervisor and litigation specialist when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes face-to-face contact with Policyholders, claimants and/or their representatives regarding commercial liability claims. Interviews insureds, claimants and others as required.
Conducts extensive investigation into coverage, liability and valuation of claims. Exercises independent judgment and discretion in determining liability and total value of claims. Makes recommendations regarding coverage of claims and utilizes outside experts and counsel when necessary.
Documents claims files. Sets and maintains reserves.
Handles or assists in handling of litigated claims as directed. Makes recommendations regarding litigation as appropriate.
Interacts with Agents, sales management and commercial underwriting. Regularly communicates claims status to all interested parties.
Serves as a resource for other claims handlers regarding commercial liability claims handling.
Assists in training adjusters as requested.
Utilizing available opportunities, remains current on commercial claims handling practices and trends.
Assigns and directs activity of independent adjusters.

Qualifications
High school diploma, or equivalent, required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Five years of previous claims handling experience or equivalent experience in the medical or legal field required. Successful completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred. CPCU designation or progress toward preferred. Appropriate license as required by state. Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
